The Naples + Collier County layer
- A Naples business needs both a City of Naples receipt and a Collier County receipt — and every business operating anywhere in Collier County (even inside Naples, Marco Island, or Everglades City) must hold the county receipt.
- Order matters and it's strict: get the city receipt first. Collier County requires a copy of your city license before it will issue the county receipt.
- Running it from home? Collier requires a Home Zoning Certificate ($50) for home-based businesses. A commercial location in unincorporated Collier needs zoning certificate approval and a fire inspection.
- All receipts expire September 30 regardless of when you bought them; renewal runs July 1 to September 30. Receipts are transferable for 10% of the tax fee on a change of ownership, location, or name.
- Operating before your receipt is issued carries a penalty under city code — and Naples typically issues a complete application in about a week, so build that lead time in.
